Vendor FAQs
How do I become a vendor / artist?
Anyone in the UK or EU can become a vendor on Audiolancer via the vendor signup page. As part of the signup process you will have to fill in your vendor profile information and sign up for a stripe account which must be connected for you to receive payouts. Once you have become a vendor you are free to fill out your profile, upload any music ,list your services and start freelancing on Audiolancer.
How can I become a vendor if I am not in the UK or EU?
Unfortunately we are unable to accept vendors from outside the UK or EU at this time but are working on expanding our platform to more countries.
Can I get paid directly into my bank?
Not directly. All our payments and payouts are processed through Stripe. You can add payout methods such as bank accounts from within your Stripe account. This allows payouts made by us to go into your bank account automatically via Stripe.
How does stripe work?
Stripe is a payments processing service. We use it to collect payments securely from our customers for sample library subscriptions which we then payout to vendors that contribute to the sample library. Payments for tracks and services are made directly to your stripe account after we deduct our comission. You are responsible for dealing with any refunds or charge-backs as a result of not fulfilling your services, we will also ban any vendors with consecutive poor reviews or that do not operate within the code of conduct or so it is in your best interest to keep your account in good standing.
How much of my info is public?
Any information added to your public vendor profile will be made public and used in the sites search functionality to give you as much exposure as possible. We do not show personal information such as your full name publicly, however this information is used for signing legal agreements for any sales that require a contract. These agreements are only shared with you and the other person you are signing an agreement with.
Why do you ask for information such as age, gender, and nationality etc?
This information is predominantly an opportunity for vocalists to give as much information about themselves as they want. This is something that we have found users such as producers find useful in narrowing down their search for the right vocalist. We want to stress that we welcome artists, performers and vocalists from all walks of life. We do not discriminate against age, sex, gender, race, location or nationality and want to create a diverse platform of artists. This extra profile information is completely optional, but useful in making you easier to find for users with specific requirements.
What’s the difference between the sample library and direct payments?
We collect all sample library subscriptions and pay out to vendors depending on how many downloads they get within a given month. Direct payments for things like tracks and services are made directly to you by the user after we deduct our commission. For jobs and services we hold the users payment until you have fulfilled the order and the user is happy with the work, this is to ensure the work is done to the high standard we expect from all of our vendors. Once everyone is happy we automatically transfer the funds into your Stripe account.
How much commission do you take?
Sample library commission is set at 50%, while sales comisssion for direct payments, (such as tracks, services and jobs) is set at 20%
Who owns the music and rights?
You retain full ownership and rights to any tracks you upload to audiolancer. How you sell that music is up to you, this may be ‘exclusively’, which means you will be selling full ownership of the music (re-assignment of rights). Or it could be non-exclusive where you still retain the rights but lease the music out for others to use under the license terms. Assets uploaded to the sample library are licensed to us to manage and exploit on your behalf. We will ensure you are paid royalties on a per-download rate for the life that the music is on the platform. We reserve the right to keep packs on the platform even if you decide to deactivate your account to ensure a smooth customer experience for users who download your work. You will still be remunerated through pack downloads through Stripe for as long as you keep an active payout method on your account.

Many users visit our site on a monthly basis in the search for royalty free samples. With vocals being our most searched category. We aim to make it easy for users to find high quality, diverse vocals and samples that are ready to use in immediately in productions. In lots of cases, a sample might not be exactly to a users specification, so giving users the ability to reach out directly to the artists for custom requests opens up huge possibilities for future and ongoing work. The sample library is centred around this concept of showcasing a portion of your work through uploading royalty free samples whilst advertising your profile and making yourself accessible to users that require additional or customised work. How long do payments take to go through?

What’s the difference between exclusive and non-exclusive?
Music sold exclusively is when you are “selling’ the music and all rights associated to it to someone else. In terms of ownership, this would be a full transfer/re-assignment of ownership to the buyer. Music sold non-exclusively is where you retain the rights and lease or “license” the music to others (usually multiple buyers) They are free to use the music but only under certain license terms stipulated in the license agreement.
Can I sell tracks exclusively and non-exclusively at same time?
No, once a track has been sold exclusively it can no longer be sold and will be removed from the platform. The track can not be sold anywhere either non-exclusively or exclusively, as you have sold the full set of rights to someone else and they now own the copyright & intellectual property exclusively.
Can I list my music on other sites as well as audiolancer?
Yes you can, but we recommend you only list music you intend to sell non-exclusively on multiple platforms to prevent a scenario where your music may sell on two sites at the same time, or where it sells on one site and you forget to de-list it on another site. This situation could land you in a lot of legal trouble if you sell the same music exclusively twice.
What’s the difference between private, demo and public tracks?
Private tracks are purely for allowing you to store music on Audiolancer for you to see only from your personal profile. Demo tracks allow you to upload any music that showcases your talent but is not for sale. Public tracks are tracks you’ve uploaded specifically with the intention of being sold either exclusively or non-exclusively. These tracks get indexed and added to the relevant pages of our site so they are publicly searchable for prospective buyers.
How long does it take a pack to get approved?
We try to audit packs for feedback within 48 hours. If the pack is approved it will be published immediately, if it is rejected you will receive information regarding why it was rejected and changes to apply prior to re-submitting.
Can I upload stuff I don’t own?
No. Under no circumstances can you upload, publish or sell work that is not exclusively owned by you. If you are working as a group or band then all members must be in agreement to what is uploaded. This includes the use of samples. Ensure that any samples you are using are royalty free. If you are using vocals or acapellas, or anything recorded by someone else, it all must be either royalty free or you must own the full copyright to all of the works. Likewise if you are a vocalist using a an instrumental or backing track, make sure it is royalty free or that you have the right to be selling it.
Do I need clearance from my label?
If you are signed to a record label or have a publishing deal we recommend making them aware of what music you are uploading to the platform. Be aware that you cannot upload music to the platform if it is already signed by a label or has been recorded by the label because it is likely they will own either all or part of the rights to the recording. Likewise if you have a publishing deal you cannot upload music that your publisher owns a share of. This is why we always recommend checking with your label and publisher first. If you have your own music which is not associated with a label or publisher then you are free to upload it.
Can I upload samples and vocals?
Yes, however if the samples or vocals are not yours, make sure that the samples are royalty-free and that you have the rights to use, distribute and monetise them. A good example of this would be that you are a producer working with a vocalist and have in writing that they sang the vocals for you on a work-for-hire basis, meaning you own the full set of rights to these vocals.
What if I’m a session musician, vocalist and producer?
This is not a problem, you can list yourself as all three on audiolancer.
My pack has been rejected, what now?
If your pack gets rejected, this Is either because it does not meet the required standards (Rejected). Or it is up to standard but requires some fixes prior to being published as live. In the latter case, the pack will be set back to “Draft”. If a pack is fully rejected it is not suitable for upload. In most cases we will let you know the reason why, which usually comes down to poor recording quality or use of uncleared samples or vocals. In the case of packs which have been set back to draft. Usually we will just require a few minor fixes, such as a poorly recorded or edited sample, or more metadata required. As soon as these corrections are made you may re-submit your pack for approval.
How should I upload my pack?
Important factors to think about when uploading to the sample library are: - Ensure you own all the rights to the music you are uploading - Normalise audio levels - Reduce background noise - Trimming audio - Record with a good quality microphone or soundcard - Removing clicks & pops - Consider light processing
Can I upload content with backing tracks for context?
Yes, we encourage uploading alternative versions of the music (either a processed version or using a backing track for context in the case of acapellas). Just ensure you have permission to use any samples you use.
